Born from Something Genuine
BLACK BVT began the way most things worth doing begin — with a specific frustration and the stubborn belief that something better was possible.
The fantasy toy space has long been dominated by a handful of names. Some of them are excellent at what they do. But the aesthetic vocabulary was narrow, the designs predictable, and the feeling of discovering something genuinely new was rare. So I decided to make it myself.
What started as a personal project during the isolation of COVID became an obsession, then a craft, then a business. Every sculpt in the BLACK BVT collection is an original digital sculpture — nothing purchased, nothing borrowed, nothing adapted from someone else's vision. The bat logo embossed into the base of every piece isn't just branding. It's a mark of authorship.
For those who find Bad Dragon a starting point rather than a destination — for those drawn to darker aesthetics, witchier sensibilities, and forms that feel genuinely otherworldly — BLACK BVT was made with you in mind.
Every piece is cast in premium platinum-cured Dragon Skin silicone with professional vacuum degassing — a standard more common in industrial casting than boutique toy making. The quality difference is real, and it's something I take seriously.
This is a solo operation. One maker, one studio, one standard. Every order gets the same attention.
The Process
Sculpted
Every design begins as an original digital sculpture built from scratch in Nomad Sculpt. No purchased assets. No downloaded base meshes. The sculpture is refined over weeks — topology, proportion, texture, and intention — until it's exactly right. Then it's printed on a resin 3D printer at high resolution to produce the master positive.
Molded
The resin master is used to create a platinum silicone production mold using Smooth-On Mold Star. The mold captures every detail of the original sculpture — texture, depth, all of it — and holds it permanently. Professional-grade vacuum degassing with an Edwards scroll pump removes air from the mold material before it sets, eliminating bubbles at the source.
Cast
Each piece is individually cast to order in Smooth-On Dragon Skin 10 platinum silicone — fully body safe, non-porous, phthalate-free, and built to last. Colorants are mixed precisely and poured by hand. Every cast is vacuum degassed again before curing. The result is a finished product with zero bubbles, excellent detail retention, and a silky surface finish that reflects how much care went into it.
